What I learned in World History

Research Paper blogging:Okay, the final stretch! You know the drill:- Label with your name and #Research- Cite your source as best you can.Away!

There were many things that I learned in this year's class. The most important was probably the ability to do research. I read articles in both print and on-line. I learned the power of the internet and it's ability to provide information. All kinds of information. I actually saw the progression of the human race thru history. I learned that different cultures exists in different parts of the world but that they all had many things in common. I learned that history tells the story of why we are what we are today. It is a roadmap of the past to the present. It was fun to learn how things come to be. I really never thought about it much until I started reading our assignments. I actually enjoyed modern history more than I did about history from long ago. So many wars.

  1. IN this class we learned alot about Europe. How do you think this impacted your knowledge of the world as a whole? Yes Europeans had an impact on alot of the world, but i think one of the things i liked best about this class was that while the Europeans were doing one thing in Africa, the Japanese were stopping their extreme isolation and begining the MEiji restoration, somethin i know nothing about before this class.

  3. I think Cal's point about learning about how we came to where we are today is very true. I didn't really know much about why some things are the way they are before this class. I learned about the importance of the types of leaders and how much of an impact and influence they can have. I also learned about how much people can learn from other societies and incorporate it into their own, like the Industrial Revolution. More people decided they should experiment and try to advance their society by exploring technology.

  5. Times have changed over the course of human history. As technology advances, strategies change, and governments and cultures adapt to the new world. Different societies learn from the mistakes and successes of other societies.

  6. I agree with Marjory. The eurocentric or american-ist focus of most history classes sometimes turned me off. I felt like I wasn't getting the real facts, but I think Sushu did a good job of weeding out cultural biases, perhaps because she has more global experience than the average white american teacher.

  7. I agree with Cy, I think Ms. Xia did a really good job of teaching us from the perspective of an array of different people and cultures. Usually in history, I learn only about the events through the eyes of the American people, but this year I saw things from the point of view of many new people.
