Antarctica

John Davis (pictured above) was the first person to step foot on Antarctica on Febuary 7, 1821.

  1. This guy looks really interesting, John! However I'd love to learn a bit more about him. Once John Davis had stepped foot in Antarctica, what did he do? Why is he so significant? What caused you to have interest in researching this man? I look forward to learning more!

  2. I'm also doing my report on John Davis, so perhaps I can offer some insight regarding some of your questions.

    First of all, the picture you have on this blog isnt the John Davis who set foot in Antarctica, its the John Davis who was the governor of Mass...two different people.

    The Antarctic John Davis was a sealer, not a governor. He didn't really mean to find it, nor is he really significant. He just happen to stumble upon the continent while looking for seals to catch.

  3. Davis was merely a sealer. He did not discover Antarctica, however he states that he was the first to ever set foot on it. There were a few others who seen it first.
