Sepoy Rebellion: A Religions Movement

I personally believe that the Sepoy Rebellion was not a nationalist effort. Actually it was completely opposite of a Nationalist effort. The Sepoy were separated in their efforts because of the fact that the Muslims and the Hindus were angry at the British for different reasons. They did not fight for the same common believe and they took very different unorganized approaches to defeating the British. If this was a true nationalist effort then the whole nation of Indian natives would be fighting against the British and not different tribes fighting for different reasons. Also, the reason this rebellion was provoked was because of religious reasons and not because they felt that the British were neglecting the Sepoy's pride as a nation. They felt that the British offended both the Muslim and Hindu religions and this was much more of religions movement then a nationalist movement.
