Australian National Anthem

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in Nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia fair!"

Beneath our radiant southern Cross,
We'll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing
"Advance Australia fair!"

Up until 1984, Australia used "God Save the Queen," the United Kingdom's national anthem. However, it then switched over to what it is known as today, "Advance Australia Fair." This new anthem was decided upon by a survey of the nation, which determined the overall will of the country (and continent). "Advance Australia Fair" beat out "God Save the Queen" and "Song of Australia" easily, and easily stood out as the winner over "Waltzing Matilda" in the second round of voting. The anthem was first used for Australia in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

The anthem tells of Australia's place in the world, surrounded by ocean and full of nature's gifts. War is not a very important aspect to the life of Autralians because there are few people to fight with. Natura matters more to then and this can be seen in their views of their "golden soil" and how they will "toil" to save their sacred land.
