The Star-Spangled Banner

I chose the United States National Anthem because I had never read it in its entirety, despite the fact that the first stanza is often sung at major events in our country. The anthem's lyrics come from a poem written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key entitled, "Defence of Fort McHenry."
I don't believe that our anthem defines our nation. I can't speak for all 300,000,000+ Americans, but I can say that it does not inspire me or encourage me to do anything. For some, it may make them feel independent or free, as the anthem was written about the United States fighting against Great Britain in 1812.

  1. Not to be rude, but I know for a fact that there are not many things that can inspire Cy Ray; however, the star-spangled banner is one of the first songs I and many others learned as a child and often holds deeper meaning to certain people. The lyrics themselves may not inspire, but the idea and story behind the song does.
