Jamaican National Anthem
I chose to do the Jamaican National Anthem, because of the interesting diversity of people. Jamaica had one of the largest slave populations of the Americas, yet had a lot of Christian Europeans. I thought that perhaps their national anthem would sound somewhat reggae but in fact it sounds like a church organ. The lyrics also have a religious tendency, saying phrases like eternal Father and Heavanly Father. The anthem was first adopted in 1962, when they had a national anthem committee to decide what in fact the national anthem would be. The music was written by Robert Charles Lightbourne and the words were written by Hugh Braham Sherlock.
