The Evolution of War

I think that war has completely changed after WWII. Almost every single aspect of the war has been changed varying from the battles, the diplomacy's, and the after effects of the war. If you look at WWI and how people prepared and fought during the war, it had almost nothing in common with WWII. Armies would sit in trenches for months seeing which army could last the longest, however this was the opposite in WWII. Armies were charging cities fighting with almost a sense of urgency. This made it much easier to conquer territories in a faster time, however the were more consequences. Also, both the naval and air force academies became HUGE factors in WWII. As we see with the Japanese-American fights in the Pacific, these both played major roles. However before, neither of these were used other then transportation of ammo and food. These two aspects almost determined the end of the war as we saw with the bombing in Japan. Another difference was the implications of the war. Millions died and it left nations in shambles and others trembling. This was the case with the US after they dropped the bomb. People around the world couldn't believe that they had that much power. It left nations in constant fear and would lead to the cold war. It was one of the first times in history where a weapon developed in war had such a psychological grip on the world. Overall, WWII changed both the concept and idea of modern warfare.

  1. I think you make a very good point about how the bombs dropped on hiroshima and nagasaki caused a HUGE amount of fear in the rest of the world. Without those bombs, the war probably would've continued the way it was going for a lot longer and even though many people died and many lives were destroyed forever in the bombings, it is very possible that without them the casualties of the war would have been even greater.

Also, i think that one big reason that WWII was different from WWI was the advancements made in technology. It's true that different military tactics were used and that the navy and air force played much bigger roles in the fighting, but that would not have been possible without the advancements made by all countries involved in the WWI.

  2. I agree what you said about pretty much everything, but I was wondering what you meant about the after effects of the war. What do you think was the difference between the after effects of WWI and WWII?

  3. I definitely agree with you Carson. Especially with the part about the constant fear that countries had over others. The atomic bomb was a great example of this. Even today we use the number of warheads to show our strength. We would stockade many weapons and would broadcast how many we were willing to produce. To ask a question though, do you feel that a country needs to drop a bomb on the enemy to prove their strength? Or does the simple fact that we have more weapons than them keep us on top?
