Italy vs All Other Nations

Italy was a very interesting country to focus on while studying World War I. They switched sides during the first couple months of the war which benefited them very much since they ended up on the side with the most "winnings". First off, they waited a while to join the war because they wanted to make sure that the chose the right side. In the Treaty of London Britain had offered Italy large sections of territory in the Adriatic Sea region. Such an offer was too tempting for Italy to refuse. Britain and France wanted Italy to join in on their side so that a new front could open up to the south of the Western Front. In the end, Italy didn't even get half of what the Treaty said and got the least of the good things that all the other countries received.

  1. How easy or hard was it for them to switch sides? What was it that actually brought them into the war? What happened in the Treaty of London besides Italy receiving large sections of territory? You said Italy "got the least of the good things that all the other countries received," what did they get and what did other countries get? Also, what other country are you comparing Italy to here?

  2. Elle u say that Italy switched to the side that lost. There was no losers in WW1 if anything the joined the side that "won" and by won i mean they got a better deal in the Treaty of Versailles. Thought i would clarify

  3. Elle, Italy didn't switch to the side that lost because based on the Treaty of Versailles, their side ended up with a better deal as Carson said.

  4. "The Italians did not get what they felt had been promised at the Treaty of London and that caused resentment especially at the losses Italy had endured fighting for the Allies. The government came over as weak and lacking pride in Italy. For nationalists, the failure of the government to stand up to the "Big Three" at Versailles was unforgivable."

Here is an exact quote from the website that I got my information from. It does not state that Italy lost, but it does how state that Italy did not get what they deserved and after World War 1, there government collapsed and there was an economic crisis. So even though Italy made not have "lost" the war, they did not get the goods they should have gotten.
