UKRAINE PARLIAMENT

In this current event, ukraine was having a debate on wether or not Russia can use a naval base in their country. The president of Ukraine was explaining and describing this law as betrayal to their country and it got ugly. Fist fights were present in parliament. I think that this relates to modern world history by portraying Nationalism. The president is just trying to get the picture out that they would be betraying their own country if the law past and that the people in Ukraine should have pride in their country. It is a very controversial subject.

  1. Great post Kaitlin! I was wondering though what about this you found controversial, the debate regarding whether or not Ukraine should permit hosting Russia's naval base, or that the arguments grew out of hand? What is your personal opinion on the matter? I feel as though nationalism is a definite factor into this issue, however did it ever arise in the article that location was an issue, or that Ukraine and Russia were experiencing problems prior to this event? Interesting post!

  2. Its pathetic that we have handed over (or perhaps it has simply been taken from us) so much control to such a small group of individuals. How can we rely on them to be a stable force for good and peace in the world, when they can't even maintain their professional composure during parliament!

  3. This is honestly despicable. The parliamentary has a great amount of power, and if one side doesn't get their way, fist fights break out? These people are supposed to be the leaders of their country. This sets a very poor example for the rest of Ukraine.
